Underline is asking for donations to help out with the unexpected expense for a water service replacement. This gentlemen that requested a quote from us mentioned that he had very little money because he had recently won a battle against pancreatic cancer. We would like for him to also win this battle against his damaged water line that keeps sprouting new leaks! We feel like this individual deserves a break and we hope that you feel the same. We are asking for your help with helping him. If you would like to contribute there are many ways to help him out:

  • suppliers can donate job supplies,

  • contractors can contribute time and work

  • people can help out with a portion of the work

  • or cash donations to help cover costs, job supplies, and his high water bill.

Donations closed!!! Thank YOU

TRENCHLESS WATER LINE REPLACEMENT

December 29, 2019

A homeowner received a very high water bill that indicated a possible water leak in the water main. Not sure what to do the homeowner contacted Michael Molina at Underline from a trusted referral. He came out to thoroughly inspect the plumbing and determined it was the water main outside by shutting off the water main by the house and observing that the water meter by the curb was still spinning. He was able to bypass the underground water main and turn water on to the house temporarily.

Next step was to identify the type of water line that was underground. Most water lines are copper, Wirsbo, galvanized, Pex, polybutylene, or Big Blue. While there is not necessarily a favorite type, the United States plumbing industry once looked at the Polybutylene pipe as a revolutionary “pipe of the future”. When Big Blue came out It was supposed to be the best newest thing for piping. However, it didn't take long for everyone to discover that this piping was defective and was subject to deterioration, bursts, leaks, etc. and everything you do not want  as a characteristic of your water line piping! “Big Blue” was used from about 1978 to 1995 because of its low cost. It’s important to note that “Big Blue” came in many colors other than blue. The pipe may also be grey, silver, black, or white. Most of the time you can find a code on the pipe showing PB2110. If your home was built between 70s - 90s It would be a great idea to get it checked out and replace it before it costs you a mess and huge water bills when you do not expect it.

Unfortunately This customer’s water line was “Big Blue” and would need to be replaced. The homeowner was given free estimate to replace the water main. He learned how trenchless water replacement worked and knew this was the obvious approach that needed to be taken to fix his water service main. Trenchless water line replacement works by using a directional drilling machine to drill under the ground horizontally. Underline HDD is able to drill from the water meter to the connection at the house and connect the new water line into the existing plumbing system with minimal to no damage to the landscaping, sidewalks or driveway. The process usually only takes half a day and the water is generally off for a couple of hours.

If you have a concern of a high water bill, or you just want your underground water service line inspected to make sure you do not have “Big Blue,” please do not hesitate to call us. Underline HDD offers free estimates to the Vancouver WA and surrounding areas.
